Observability Engineer with Dynatrace, Prometheus, AWS and Data (Lead II - DevOps Engineering)
Location: Nottingham (Hybrid) – Permanent
We are seeking an experienced Observability Engineer with strong skills in custom data integration and web experience. This role focuses on building robust observability frameworks, integrating diverse data sources, and creating intuitive dashboards and status pages to deliver actionable insights for system performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
* Design & Implement Observability Frameworks: Integrate monitoring, logging, and tracing for cloud-native and on-premises systems.
* Data Integration & Ingestion: Build scalable systems to collect and ingest data from multiple sources via APIs; manage time-series data effectively.
* Custom Solutions: Develop dashboards and reporting views that provide clear, actionable insights.
* Status Pages: Create and maintain user-friendly web interfaces to communicate system health to stakeholders.
* Tooling Expertise: Use Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace for data collection, visualisation, and deep-dive analysis.
* Collaboration: Partner with development, operations, and SRE teams to define performance metrics (e.g., latency, error rates).
* Performance & Reliability: Apply data-driven insights to improve reliability, reduce MTTR, and optimise resource usage.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
* Proficiency in Prometheus, Grafana, and Dynatrace.
* Experience with time-series data and PromQL.
* Strong knowledge of API design, data modelling, and pipelines.
* Expertise in scripting and backend development (Python, Go, Java).
Experience
* Proven track record designing and scaling observability stacks for production systems.
* Hands‑on experience with AWS or Azure.
* Familiarity with containerisation (Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
Soft Skills
* Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
* Ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations for technical and non‑technical audiences.
