Job Purpose:
YMCA Basingstoke is located in Basingstoke town centre and is a purpose-built housing facility accommodating 83 people aged 18-35, supporting them to live independently. As a key member of the Youth Engagement Team working at Basingstoke this post will work alongside the Community Manager to deliver evidenced-based and youth-focused programmes to residents and the wider Basingstoke Community.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
12. Develop, promote and deliver engaging and relevant social activities and programmes on a daily basis to young people
13. Support, mentor, coach and ‘walk alongside’ individuals in their pursuit of independence and community cohesion
14. Undertake risk assessments and support planning interviews with new residents
15. Develop community minded support and activities that involve the wider community
16. Engage third parties to deliver support and activities to young people
17. To act as an advocate for young people and to engage partner agencies and services appropriate to the young people’s needs
18. Actively encourage job search, training, and volunteering opportunities with young people who are not in education, employment, or training
19. Facilitate the booking and delivery of community-based programmes
20. Assist with the interviewing and selection of those applying for accommodation
21. Undertake risk assessments and support planning with young people
22. A willingness to work to a rota system including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
Qualifications and Experience:
23. Demonstrable experience of programme delivery in youth, adult or community-based service
24. An ability and willingness to relate positively to young people, visitors and staff
25. An outgoing and friendly personality, able to communicate well and engage a wide range of people
26. Ability to react positively and effectively when faced with unwanted high-risk behaviours from young people, whether targeted towards themselves, staff, visitors or other young people
27. Good level of IT proficiency
28. Knowledge of housing support services and processes
29. An understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
30. An understanding of the issues facing young people
31. An understanding of equality and diversity matters
