Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical fellow to strengthen the hepatology service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH). This post is one of several new funded roles who will support the expansion of viral hepatitis provision at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT).

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop wide experience within the department, with sessions being dedicated to clinical work (which will include outpatient clinics in Hepatology) with some flexible sessions to develop relevant interests, such as Endoscopy and Gastroenterology. The post could be tailored to specific interests within Hepatology/Hepatitis. An important component of this post will be to support the Viral Hepatitis Network and its integrated pathways across primary and secondary care including liaison with King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts.

Responsibilities

* Attend five (5) clinical sessions per week, with flexibility in covering clinical commitments.
* Attend the Viral Hepatitis MDT hosted by KCH (which can be virtual) and ODN ops meetings as scheduled.
* Support data collection and potentially work cross-site and develop specific projects.
* Involve in research projects focused on Hepatitis C and DAAs, fibrosis, NAFLD, and HBV cohorts.
* Potential involvement in clinical trials (Phase 1-Phase 3).
* Allocate one session for administrative duties from clinical sessions, including writing letters and organising follow‑up investigations.
* Diagnose and treat patients of the Trust in hospital, health centres, clinics or other premises as required.
* Maintain continuing clinical responsibility for patients in charge, allowing proper delegation and training of staff.
* Act as a resource and support to patients and their relatives, explaining practical aspects of clinical trials.
* Assist in clinical audits and research projects to improve care.

Qualifications and Experience

* Prior or current experience in hepatology or viral hepatitis clinical work.
* Research experience in hepatitis C, DAAs, fibrosis, NAFLD, or HBV is an advantage but not mandatory.
* Ability to work cross‑site and develop relevant projects.
* Good communication skills and ability to train and delegate to junior staff.
* Willingness to engage in clinical auditing and improvement projects.
