Job overview

We are looking for a compassionate, highly motivated Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for caring for women with early pregnancy complications and gynaecology issues.

You will work with a supportive MDT and provide time-critical rapid assessment of women in close liaison with ED, midwifery and GP colleagues. The successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in gynaecology and early pregnancy management and pathways. We run a Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) at Royal Derby Hospital. Strong teamwork and the ability to manage your own workload are essential. The role includes nurse in charge on some shifts.

The unit delivers specialist, evidence-based, holistic care to women with early pregnancy complications and emergency gynaecological conditions. Our team includes Consultant Gynaecologists, senior staff, specialist nurses, registered nurses, healthcare support workers and receptionists.


Main duties of the job

You will be expected to:

* Run the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit clinics, evaluate, plan and implement care for women with early pregnancy complications (e.g., miscarriage, ectopic).
* Run the Gynaecology Assessment Unit, triage and manage care for women with early pregnancy complications and gynaecology issues, including nurse-led triage in collaboration with gynaecology doctors.
* Take an active role in service improvement and audit; act as nurse in charge and oversee staff nurses, healthcare assistants and receptionists in the unit.
* Participate in general department management duties, including staff training, competency assessment and appraisals.
* Be a registered nurse with current NMC registration, with experience in gynaecology and early pregnancy. A gynaecology course is advantageous.

* Relevant Nursing Practice in a Gynaecology Setting
* Experience as a Gynaecology Staff Nurse
* Experience managing a ward/department/team leader
* Experience running nurse-led clinics
* Experience in Early Pregnancy/Emergency Gynaecology settings
* Phlebotomy and cannulation skills


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with NMC registration
