Job Overview This is a fixed‑term NHS Locum Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist role providing medical leadership for the Roding inpatient ward based at St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping, Essex. The Consultant will lead a multidisciplinary team that includes resident doctors, ward nursing staff, psychiatrists, CPNs, occupational therapists and a psychologist.
Responsibilities
Provide the clinical care of patients admitted to the in‑patient unit and act as the Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
Work closely with ward managers and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a safe and effective service.
Collaborate with relevant community teams to contribute to a seamless care pathway for patients across the service.
Apply knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and relevant legislation to patient care.
Support newly qualified consultants in continuing professional development, research and teaching opportunities.
Qualifications
Full GMC registration and currently on the Specialist Register.
Appropriate CCT or equivalent, or within six months of obtaining a CCT on the date of application.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and experience applying it in clinical practice.
