Job Description
This role is for a design engineer to work on the Heathrow Airport Information and Control Systems (ICS) Projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing structured cabling systems within various construction projects, requiring a strong understanding of construction methodologies, CDM regulations, and effective sequencing of works. The role involves designing network solutions involving vendor products, cable infrastructure, cabinet designs, and AutoCAD drawings, with adherence to all relevant standards and safety regulations.

As a Network Structured Cabling Designer, you will contribute by designing and implementing cutting-edge network solutions that enhance operational efficiency, security, and eco-friendly practices, helping airports reduce environmental impact while ensuring seamless connectivity.
Key Areas of Responsibility
* Design solutions involving network products (e.g., Cisco, Nokia, OTN), cabling infrastructure design, and implementation.
* Develop and implement structured cabling systems, including fiber optic (single-mode and multi-mode) and copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a).
* Design and develop detailed designs, cable schedules, bill of materials, and cost estimates.
* Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams for seamless integration.
* Ensure compliance with international standards such as TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801, BS EN 50173, and relevant safety regulations.
Core Activities
* Prepare detailed design specifications, drawings, and documentation.
* Conduct site surveys and analyze existing infrastructure.
* Identify and mitigate risks associated with cabling infrastructure.
* Develop and present technical reports and presentations.
* Ensure design compliance with all regulations, including CDM 2015 and industry standards.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve issues.
* Adhere to health and safety requirements, including obtaining airside passes involving criminal records checks and references.
Experience
* Minimum 5 years in structured cabling design within construction environments.
* Proven experience with fiber optic and copper cabling systems.
* Understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and industry standards.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
* Strong problem-solving skills and experience managing the design lifecycle.
Technical Experience
* Cabling and physical infrastructure design.
* Preferably familiar with Heathrow airport systems and design requirements.
* Knowledge of network infrastructure, particularly Cisco products, wireless, radio, and voice networks.
