Overview
The Product Technologist will drive work streams with suppliers in setting priorities and managing continuous improvement activity. In conjunction with this the Product Technologist will compile and deliver business information to assist in improving the decisions of the Buying department, specifically within Product Development, Product Performance and Supplier Management.
Responsibilities
* Agree on clear objectives with your line manager and actively contribute to a personal development plan.
* Translate and communicate quality strategy and vision into work streams to meet individual and business objectives.
* Act as a liaison point with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all external service and product providers.
* Ensure adherence to all Furniture Village and legal requirements for areas of responsibility by defining technical specification requirements and compiling product technical files.
* Ensure all new supplier and manufacturing sites are formally visited for pre‑approval recommendation; products are only sourced from suppliers that have been technically and socially approved.
* Engage and involve the Technical team, Buying teams, Suppliers and other key stakeholders at the right time to enable the effective delivery of commercial targets.
* Conduct regular quality & safety reviews and risk assessments on concept samples and designs, including model, product and packaging / assembly instructions in the development process.
* Be fully accountable and focused on meeting current objectives, striving to improve areas within and outside of immediate responsibilities.
* Interpret data and translate into recommendations for improvement or change; prioritise workload effectively.
* Analyse and assess likely outcomes, evaluate options and decide on an appropriate course of action quickly in a fast‑paced environment.
* Demonstrate clear thinking and the ability to reason to make sound judgements.
* Maintain a positive approach to change and continuously improve within the business.
* Communicate effectively written and verbal, producing concise reports and using email efficiently.
* Inspire and influence individuals and cross‑functional teams to meet business objectives.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience in product development, supplier management or a related field.
* Strong analytical and decision‑making skills in a fast‑paced environment.
* Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management abilities.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
* Understanding of quality, safety, risk assessment and technical specifications.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.
