Apprentice Test Engineer
Location: Hemel Hempstead

As the leading business standards company, at BSI we work with organizations to help shape standards of excellence worldwide. We currently have an exciting opportunity as an Apprentice Test Engineer in our Laboratory Testing Team.
About the role
In this role you’ll be contributing to the safety of hundreds of thousands of people by ensuring the wide range of products manufactured by our clients are tested and safe to use in our everyday lives. The vast range of construction materials to personal safety products are tested for safety critical use, having been subjected to extremes of functional, physical, environmental or security testing in our laboratories.
You’ll get the opportunity to contribute to the whole product testing process, for example, you’ll support from when a motorcycle helmet, car windscreen or fire extinguisher arrives through the door, testing it to destruction, analysing & considering the test results, pulling together a customer friendly report and helping give the BSI stamp of approval.
Don’t worry we won’t expect you to do all this straight away as over the development period you will move through the different departments within the business learning a wide variety of skills under the guidance of experienced engineers.
You’ll also get the opportunity to work with our client’s which might include names such as 3M, Durex, Pilkington & McLaren.
About you

You’ll be innovative in your approach to challenges while maintaining BSI’s integrity and reputation.
You’ll preferably have completed the NVQ 2 Performing Engineering Operations qualification and at a minimum you’ll have GCSE’s in English, Maths and Science.
Working for a company with such a wide portfolio, we need an individual who is keen to continue their own development, demonstrates a self-motivated approach and is able to operate in a right first time environment.
What we offer
We will support you through an engineering apprenticeship scheme with Milton Keynes College. You will receive full training in all of our laboratory Testing functions and on-going soft skill development. We will support you in your college studies plus time will be allowed for off-site college study and exam days.
Following completion of the apprenticeship scheme, BSI will look to support the Apprentice into a permanent position.
