Reception Teaching Assistant - Level 3 (SEN Focus)
Location: Rochdale, OL12 • Start Date: September 2025 • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday • Pay: £100 per day
A welcoming primary school in Rochdale (OL12) is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Level 3 Reception Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team this September. This role will involve working alongside the class teacher, supporting all children in Reception, with a particular focus on pupils with special educational needs (SEN) who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing both general classroom support and tailored SEN support, ensuring that children with varying additional needs are fully included and able to thrive.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with the class teacher to deliver planned learning activities in line with the EYFS curriculum
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, following their EHCP targets
* Assist in adapting resources and activities to meet the individual needs of children
* Support with classroom preparation, organisation, and the creation of engaging learning resources
* Deliver interventions in areas such as phonics, communication, social skills and early numeracy
* Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting on development against EHCP outcomes
* Contribute to the planning and delivery of creative and play-based learning activities
* Encourage independence, confidence and positive behaviour
* Liaise with the SENCO, parents, carers, and external professionals to support children's development
Requirements
* Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) - essential
* Experience of supporting children in EYFS/Reception
* Previous experience of working with children with SEN and EHCPs is highly desirable
* Knowledge of strategies such as visual timetables, PECs or Makaton would be an advantage
* Strong communication skills and a patient, nurturing approach
* Ability to work collaboratively with the teacher, SENCO and wider school team
