Job Overview

The Pipefitter installs, assembles, maintains, and repairs piping systems and supports used in thermal power station operations. This role works specifically with high-pressure systems, boilers, steam lines, conveyors, and associated equipment found in thermal power generation environments. The Pipefitter ensures optimal function and safety of piping systems critical to the station's operation. This position requires attention to safety standards, energy industry regulations, and efficient teamwork.

Main Duties

* Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, isometric drawings, and technical documents for thermal power station piping systems.
* Select and prepare materials suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure systems, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy pipes.
* Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipe using industry-approved hand and power tools.
* Assemble and install piping systems used for boilers, superheaters, turbines, cooling systems, and auxiliary station equipment.
* Connect pipes using welding, bolting, threading, or flanging methods, ensuring leakproof joints and compliance with relevant standards.
* Carry out hydrostatic and pneumatic tests on piping networks, especially for steam and boiler feedwater lines, to detect leaks or weaknesses.
* Inspect, maintain, and repair existing pipework, valves, and supports, minimising downtime and ensuring operational reliability.
* Secure pipes and related equipment to structures using brackets, clamps, and supports suitable for power station environments.
* Follow all safety protocols, particularly when working with pressurised, high-temperature, or hazardous systems.
* Maintain a clean, organised work area and safeguard all tools, equipment, and station assets.
* Coordinate and communicate clearly with supervisors, power station engineers, control room operators, and other trades.
* Document all installation, testing, and maintenance work accurately for records and compliance reporting.

Required Qualifications

* Experience as a pipefitter in a thermal power station, heavy industrial, or energy sector environment.
* Understanding of power generation processes and the specific requirements of boiler and steam piping systems.
* Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical and process drawings.
* Skill in using hand and power tools and in carrying out industry-standard welding and pipe joining methods.
* Awareness of high-temperature, high-pressure piping standards and best practices (such as those from recognised standard-setting bodies).
* Physical ability to work in challenging conditions, including at heights, in confined spaces, around heat, and outdoors.
* Attention to detail and commitment to correct installation, safety, and compliance at all times.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills for coordination in a multi-disciplinary station environment.
* Relevant vocational qualifications, certifications, or completed apprenticeship in pipefitting, mechanical, or power engineering trades.
* Valid ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport
* Flexibility to work shifts or extended hours as required by power station operations.
