An exciting opportunity is available for a Clinical Director role in the Specialist Medicine Division, working within the Directorate Management triumvirate team alongside the General Manager and Senior Nurses to lead delivery of a range of services against quality, financial, performance and strategic objectives. You will need to be an outstanding medical leader, motivating your team to deliver continuous improvements to patient pathways and processes especially around digital innovation and the prevention strategy. Also of paramount importance is maintaining best value for the NHS and nurturing your workforce.

But beyond this, you will be part of developing and delivering improvements in changes to services across East London and beyond, through our many strategic partnerships and networks. Main duties of the job

1. To co-ordinate annual leave for medical staff and to ensure adequate cover is in place during periods of leave.
2. To sign off study leave requests from consultants in the department.
3. To chair a monthly, or more frequent if required, service meeting of consultant staff and others as appropriate.
4. To lead the appraisal process for consultants within the department.
5. To ensure there is appropriate consultant cover for the service specialty in the event of annual/study leave or unexpected leave e.g. sickness or compassionate leave.

Qualifications/ Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Registration with relevant professional body.
9. Post graduate qualifications.
10. Employed substantively in clinical practice within Barts Health NHS Trust
11. Evidence of continuing professional development
12. A good understanding of the current context of health and social care, and of clinical learning and research
13. A good understanding of the specific issues in East London
14. A broad understanding of the systems for primary care, social care and commissioning
15. Knowledge of the Trust priorities

16. Management qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria

17. Worked clinically at a senior level for at least 3 years
18. Significant experience of leadership and management
19. Experience of clinical governance and of the measures to ensure patient safety
20. A record of partnership working
21. Track record of innovation

23. Track record of addressing poor performance
24. Able to establish and sustain effective strategic direction
