Job Purpose To provide high-quality, impactful teaching that ensures all pupils make rapid and sustained progress. As a teacher in Upper Key Stage 2, you will be responsible for navigating the critical final years of primary education, preparing pupils academically and emotionally for the transition to secondary school, and ensuring the highest standards of attainment in statutory assessments. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Teaching and Learning Plan and deliver ambitious, well-sequenced lessons that meet the requirements of the KS2 National Curriculum. Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, or those eligible for Pupil Premium. Use a range of Year 6 pedagogies (e.g. mastery, retrieval practice, and scaffolding) to secure deep understanding in core subjects. Maintain a stimulating and inclusive classroom environment where a "culture of belonging" is evident. 2. Assessment and Progress Demonstrate an unwavering understanding of the urgency of Year 6; implement immediate and effective interventions to close attainment gaps. Use formative and summative assessment data to track pupil progress rigorously and report findings to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Prepare pupils thoroughly for Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs), ensuring they are confident, well-practised, and supported Participate in internal and Trust-wide moderation to ensure the accuracy of teacher assessments. 3. Behaviour and Culture Establish a clear framework for discipline and high expectations, in line with the Academy’s Positive Relationships and Behaviour policy. Foster strong, positive relationships with pupils to build their resilience and self-esteem Promote the Trust’s values of Equity, Ambition, Collaboration, and Belonging in all daily interactions. 4. Professional Collaboration and Development Work closely with the Upper KS2 team to share resources, moderate work, and plan transition activities. Contribute to the wider life of the Academy and participate in Trust-wide school improvement initiatives. Engage proactively in the performance management process and take responsibility for your own professional development (CPD). 5. Communication and Partnership Maintain regular, open, and professional communication with parents and carers regarding their child’s progress and well-being. Collaborate with external agencies and the SENCO to support pupils with additional needs. Lead or contribute to parent workshops, particularly those focused on KS2 SATs and secondary transition. 6. Safeguarding and Statutory Duties Adhere to the latest 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (KCSIE) statutory guidance. Identify and report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately following the Academy’s procedures. Uphold all Trust policies regarding Health and Safety, Data Protection, and Equality.
