Systems Analyst (Technical SME) – AWS | APIs
We're partnering with a growing, technology-led financial services business to hire a Systems Analyst / Systems SME to take ownership of a mission-critical customer onboarding and application platform.
This is not a traditional Product Owner role.
There is no large product function, no Scrum Master safety net, and no established documentation library. We're looking for a hands-on systems thinker who can step into a complex environment, build technical understanding quickly, and become the go-to authority on how the system truly works.
This role sits between the business and engineering — but leans strongly into technical system ownership.
Why This Role Is Different
Own a Core Operational System
Take responsibility for a platform processing over 100,000 customer applications annually.
Become the System SME
Build deep expertise in legacy architecture, AWS infrastructure, APIs and third-party integrations — and advise the business with confidence.
Modernisation in Motion
The business is investing in improving documentation, governance, and technical clarity. You'll play a key role in shaping how the system evolves.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Taking true ownership of a complex, workflow-driven financial application system
Reading and interpreting technical documentation, APIs and integration flows
Identifying documentation gaps and improving system artefacts
Working directly with developers to understand constraints, technical debt and architectural decisions
Translating system behaviour into clear business language
Providing technical clarity to senior stakeholders
Supporting backlog shaping and delivery decisions — without relying on a large product function
We're Looking For
Proven experience as a Systems Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, or Systems Product Owner
Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, and AWS-hosted systems
Experience working within financial services or regulated environments
Comfortable operating within legacy systems undergoing modernisation
Confident working directly with developers and technical leads
Able to challenge constructively and communicate concisely at senior level
A "doer" — not just an observer
This Role Would Suit Someone Who:
Has built SME-level knowledge of an application or platform
Is comfortable without heavy process structure
Enjoys untangling complexity rather than debating theory
Can operate without a large surrounding product team
Working Pattern
Hybrid – Warrington (minimum one day per week onsite)
