Harvey Nash are now recruiting for a Database Architect / Migration DBA (Oracle / SQL Server)
* 12 Months
* Remote working - with some office time spent in Edinburgh
* Outside of IR35
The Role
* responsible for planning, preparing and executing database migrations that support the wider application migration programme. The role covers both SQL Server and Oracle databases hosted on-premises and migrating into Azure or a co-location datacentre. The DBA will also assist in defining and building the required database server infrastructure within the Azure landing zones or co-lo platforms to ensure compatibility, performance and operational readiness.
* This role ensures that all databases are migrated safely, data integrity is maintained and hosting environments are correctly configured for each application workload.
Required Skills:
* Strong experience as a SQL Server DBA and/or Oracle DBA supporting enterprise environments
* Hands-on experience with migration tools and techniques for both SQL Server and Oracle
* Skilled in backup and recovery operations, performance tuning and troubleshooting
* Knowledge of building and administering SQL Server or Oracle on Azure VMs or co-lo platforms
* Understanding of networking fundamentals relevant to database connectivity
* Experience supporting or migrating:
o SQL Server databases
o Oracle databases
o Databases underpinning .NET, web or client-server applications
* Ability to diagnose complex database issues during high-pressure migration events
* Comfortable working within structured change control processes
Preferred Skills
* Experience with Azure SQL or SQL Managed Instance
* Experience with Oracle on Azure or hybrid environments
* Scripting capability using PowerShell, T-SQL or PL/SQL
* Previous involvement in large-scale migration or datacentre exit programmes
