Sport Welfare Project Officer

Contract: Fixed term until March 2027

Salary: £28,000 per annum (full-time equivalent)

Hours: 30-37.5 hours per week (open to flexible working)

Location: Home-based with national travel

Reports to: Strategic Lead - Welfare

Active Partnerships are looking for a Sport Welfare Project Officer to help strengthen the national coordination of a vital safeguarding and culture change initiative across sport. This is a fixed-term national role focused on practical support, insight, and collaboration.

About the role:

This is a people-focused role supporting a major national programme to improve safeguarding and welfare in grassroots sport. You'll be part of a small team helping to connect and coordinate 63 Sport Welfare Officers working across the country, ensuring they have the tools, support, and relationships to thrive in their roles.

Whether it's gathering insight from across the network, supporting day-to-day operations, helping shape inclusive resources, or simply being a friendly and reliable point of contact - you'll play a vital part in delivering long-term cultural change in sport.

We know great candidates come from all kinds of backgrounds. Whether you're early in your career, returning to work, or looking for a flexible role with national impact, if you're highly organised, empathetic and motivated by making sport safer and more inclusive, we'd love to hear from you.

Roles and Responsibilities:

* Work closely with the central team to deliver the national Sport Welfare Officer Programme effectively and efficiently.
* Build positive relationships with Sport Welfare Officers and other stakeholders including Sport England, CPSU and ACT, creating a culture of trust, openness, and collaboration.
* Review evaluation submissions, draw out key insights and help shape future programme activities based on what you learn.
* Create clear and practical internal reports, supporting programme leads to understand what's working and where support is needed.
* Coordinate project delivery activities - such as meetings, away days, and collaborative events - including agendas, logistics, and follow-up.
* Work with the comms team on large scale events, such as SWO away days
* Support the creation and improvement of national tools, templates, and guidance that help clubs and Sport Welfare Officers build better safeguarding and welfare practices.
* Make sure content and communications are inclusive, practical, and reflect the needs of different people and communities.
* Help the team stay on top of tasks and timelines through good admin, communication, and collaborative working.
* Occasionally travel (approximately once or twice a month) to regional, national, and team events and meetings, to connect with the network and the APNO team and help deliver in-person support and learning.

Knowledge and Skills:

* Strong people skills - you can build rapport, listen carefully, and communicate clearly and sensitively.
* Great organisation - you're confident managing your own time and staying on top of tasks in a remote working environment.
* Openness and collaboration - you value working with people with diverse perspectives and experience, to co-design solutions and best practice
* Good written communication - you can summarise information clearly, write in a plain and friendly style, and adapt for different audiences.
* Ability to spot themes or issues in written feedback and use that information to help others make decisions.
* A basic understanding of safeguarding, welfare, and wellbeing - and why it is everyone's responsibility to create safe, inclusive environments
* Comfortable using digital tools like email, video calls, shared documents, and spreadsheets.
* Self-motivated and proactive - especially important in this remote team where you'll be trusted to get on with things but always have support when you need it.
* A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything you do.

Work Environment and Support

* Home-based with regular online meetings and collaboration.
* Travel required approximately 1-2 times per month for regional or national events.
* Overnight stays expected approximately 3-4 times per year for APNO national away days/SWO network away days.
* We can consider flexible working options for the right candidate
* If working from home isn't suitable, we may be able to offer access to co-working or local Active Partnership office space.

What We Offer

* 30 days holidays (plus bank holidays)
* Home based with requirement to travel regularly to different locations across England
* 6% employer pension contribution when you contribute 2%
* Flexible working hours
* Health cover

Active Partnerships are committed to inclusive hiring and want you to feel supported to be your best.
