Our Engineering teams are in Cambridge (UK), Denver (USA), Salt Lake City (USA), and Ghent (Belgium) and are responsible for designing and developing our geospatial products which are available both as cloud services and for on-premises deployment. You will be helping to develop the next generation of innovative geospatial products that support mission-critical operations for our global customer base.
Duties/Responsibilities
Responsibilities
As an integral part of the Engineering team, you will lead a team that develops new and supports existing product releases to meet the growing list of requirements for the platform product and industry vertical applications. Your duties and responsibilities will include:
* Manage and lead a small agile team of Software Engineers and Test Automation Engineers.
* Be a technical mentor for your team and others in Engineering.
* Work closely with Product Management to ensure requirements are understood.
* Ensure all product documentation is current and up to date.
* Monitor your team’s time and approve weekly timesheets in time tracking system.
* Validate and approve all expense reports submitted by your team.
* Collaborate with other Engineering Managers on various topics like release readiness, release quality, general management, team oversight, etc.
* Work closely with the Release Manager to ensure your team is meeting their expectations which correlate to the expectations of Sales, Marketing, Delivery, and possible other groups.
* Motivate your team to achieve goals and aspirations.
* Perform mid and end of year reviews of all team members.
* Coach your reports to create a career plan and guide them through how to achieve their aspirations.
* Ability to thrive in a high-paced environment with many ongoing tasks and requirements.
* Depending on your team size you may also be expected to:
o Contribute to design, development, maintenance, and enhancements of software products adhering to the product architecture.
o Implementation of automated testing.
o Configuration management and management of software builds.
o Technical documentation of software design.
Required Skills & Experience
Successful candidates will be enthusiastic individuals with a strong technical background in general enterprise software engineering with the following skills:
Essential
You must have all of the following:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Experience managing and guiding an agile team of software and test automation engineers.
* Excellent time and task management.
* Professional experience developing enterprise software with Python
* Professional experience with SQL and RDBMS technology (PostgreSQL, SQLite, or similar.)
* Professional experience developing enterprise software with JavaScript and React.
* Professional experience working on an enterprise software team.
* Experience using Git or other distributed version control systems.
* UK citizenship or permanent residency required.
Desirable
Ideally, You’ll Have Some Of The Following
* Experience working with Docker containers.
* Experience building automation tests for enterprise software, both web and mobile based.
* Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
* An understanding of open-source licenses.
* Experience within the telecommunications and utilities industries.
* Experience working in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
* Experience with Linux system architecture/administration.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
* Responsible for a team of 3-10 software engineers and test automation engineers
* Leadership requirements listed in the Essential Duties/Responsibilities section above.
