Business Services Assistant (Saxmundham)

Ensors is seeking a part‑qualified Assistant Accountant to join our busy Business Services team in our Saxmundham office (37.5 hours per week). A minimum of AAT qualified is required; study support is available for ICAEW or ACCA.


About the Team

Our Saxmundham office is a small, friendly community at Blyth House, close to the town centre. The Business Services team supports small and medium sized businesses across a variety of sectors and structures (limited companies, partnerships, sole traders, not for profit organisations/charities, professional firms). We provide services covering bookkeeping, management accounts, year‑end accounts preparation, personal & corporate tax, and other accounting matters.

This gives exposure to a broad portfolio of work and an approachable, supportive, sociable team.


The Role

This role provides opportunities for personal and career development. Responsibilities include preparing financial accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, and handling corporation and personal tax compliance. You will liaise directly with clients to clarify queries, discuss financial statements, provide additional advice and guidance, and build relationships as a trusted professional advisor. Work may be performed both in office and at client sites, and a full UK driving licence with own transport is required for client visits.


Essential Skills and Experience

* Minimum 2 years of recent experience within a UK accountancy practice, involving frontline client contact.
* Minimum AAT4 qualified and studying ICAEW/ACCA, or AAT qualified and early ICAEW/ACCA stages.
* High level of IT proficiency (MS Office, Xero, Quickbooks, Sage; CCH software useful).
* Experience in accounts preparation, management accounts, tax returns (unincorporated and corporate), VAT returns, bookkeeping.
* Excellent communication skills and confident client interaction.
* Tenacious, thorough, self‑motivated with detail orientation, organisation, and issue resolution.
* Competent in handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
* Track record of meeting deadlines and handling multiple priorities, problem‑solving in a small team.
* Must have UK driving licence and own transport for client site visits.
