An opportunity has arisen for an innovative and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse (BAND 6) to join the Dumfries Specialist Eating Disorders Service, working as an integral member of the Multidisciplinary Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for a small number of patients who have been referred to the service for support and treatment of their diagnosed eating disorder, and to provide advice, training and support to medical and nursing staff to implement safe and effective evidence based interventions and treatment specific to eating disorders. The post holder will work with colleagues from Mental Health and the Acute & Diagnostic Services to support and further develop the Specialist Eating Disorder Service, patient pathway and support staff development to enhance patient recovery and ensure robust mental health treatment and support. You must be able to demonstrate that you possess the skills and abilities necessary to effectively work within a clinical team in order to support safe and effective clinical assessment, treatment and support for patients who receive our service in NHS D&G. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships with our partners in Community, Acute and Health & Social Care Services is a vital part of this post. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with people with a mental health disorder and will hold a Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification or equivalent as demonstrated within the Person Specification and Job Description. Evidence of continual professional development is essential, and an openness for further training is essential as this will be provided for the ideal candidate and will be an ongoing requirement in keeping with therapeutic developments in eating disorders. They will also be able to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and the ability to make effective clinical decisions in pressurised environments.
This post is a Tuesday Thursday 9-5pm role and there are no shift requirements.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
