Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health (CIBH) is offering a wonderful opportunity to those applicants who enjoy helping and supporting adult individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and/or developmental or sensory impairments. This is a paraprofessional position in which duties include: responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of program members, by assisting them in self-care, communication, mobility, personal living skills. Direct Support Technicians are also responsible for connecting and integrating program members within the community by accessing different community resources.
An individual within the position of Direct Support Technician must be able to provide direct supervision to the individuals that attend the COPS program by ensuring the health and safety of program members.
* Access community resources, such as community centers, volunteer opportunities, parks, malls, museums, etc.
* Provide personal self-care, as well as meal preparation and assistance
* Completing progress/case notes and daily activity sheet.
* Serve as backup to our 24-hour residential facility when needed.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to the satisfactory completion of one year of college education in client health/mental health care, developmental psychology, or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Requires a minimum of six months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days. Employees serving the Intellectual Disabilities (ID) population must pass ID Orientation Workbook training within thirty days of hire. Depending on the assignment, may be required to pass Medication Management Administration training within ninety days of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
