Project Manager – Groundworks & Civils

Start Date: Within 2 Weeks
Duration: Minimum 18 Months
We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a high-value groundworks and civil engineering scheme based in Oxfordshire. This is a key leadership role offering full project ownership on a long-term programme with a reputable contractor.
The Role:
As Project Manager, you will take full responsibility for the successful delivery of the scheme from pre-construction through to completion. You will be the central point of coordination across all site operations, ensuring that programme, commercial, safety, and quality objectives are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage all on-site activities, ensuring works are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with programme targets
* Develop, maintain, and regularly update detailed project programmes using Microsoft Project, ensuring clear visibility of critical paths and key milestones
* Coordinate and manage site teams, including engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors
* Liaise with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships and ensure project expectations are met
* Monitor project progress, identify risks and delays, and implement mitigation strategies to keep the project on track
* Oversee health & safety compliance, ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with current regulations and company policies
* Manage project budgets in collaboration with commercial teams, including cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting
* Ensure quality standards are met throughout all phases of the project, including inspections and handovers
* Produce regular progress reports for senior management and attend project review meetings
* Drive programme performance and continuous improvement across all site operations
Requirements:
* Proven track record as a Project Manager delivering high-value groundworks and civil engineering projects
* Strong technical understanding of groundworks, infrastructure, and associated construction processes
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project for planning, scheduling, and programme management
* Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain project momentum under pressure
* Strong commercial awareness and experience working alongside quantity surveyors/commercial teams
* Relevant qualifications such as SMSTS, CSCS (Black Card), and a construction-related degree or equivalent experience
