West London Children's Healthcare (WLCH) was formed on 1st April 2022 bringing paediatric services at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CWFT) under a single leadership structure accountable to both Trust Boards for all elements of operational, quality, safety and financial performance.
Our services are organised into three Clinical Directorates:
* General and Acute Medicine and Surgery
* Critical Care and Medical Specialties
* Child Development Services and Neurology
This Assistant Service Manager post is responsible for supporting these directorates to deliver high-quality and efficient surgical care at our Chelsea and Westminster hospital campus.
You should have experience delivering improvements to systems, processes and performance, working across a wide range of staff to achieve good outcomes for patients. You will have excellent communication skills - both oral and verbal - and will be able to work well under pressure, balancing competing demands and meeting tight deadlines.
Main duties of the job
The Assistant Service Manager will:
* Be intensely patient focused, ensuring that patient quality and care is at the forefront of their decision making
* Be responsible for the delivery of high quality and efficient patient services in Paediatric theatres
* Be accountable for the operational performance of services that sit within its remit, including but not limited to RTT performance and theatre utilisation
* Support the Service Manager, Deputy General Manager and the Service Directors with the operational management of the services
* Lead on the theatres admissions process and productivity with support from the Service Manager

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up-to-date knowledge of patient services
* Evidence of on-going development
Experience
* Management experience – significant operational experience at a management level within an NHS Trust
* In-depth understanding of NHS national access targets/ national theatre KPIs
* Proven experience of service development and change management
* Experience of working on and leading projects
* Experience of managing medical staff and/or medical issues
* Experience of theatre scheduling process and working on theatre productivity projects
* Experience of managing complaints and improving patient experience
Skills
* Excellent communication skills, written and oral
* Knowledge of business management policies, procedures, practices acquired through education, professional qualifications or experience
* Ability to plan, manage and achieve business and personal objectives
* Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and NHS EPRs
* Able to deal with conflict management and problem solving
* Knowledge of specific EPR and IT systems used across WLCH
* Knowledge of, or experience working in, Paediatric services
