Role Purpose
To support Foundation For Good in maintaining a safe, compliant, and welcoming environment across all services by assisting with health and safety oversight, site checks, and policy implementation. This role contributes directly to the wellbeing of staff, volunteers, service users, and members of the public.
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk Assessment and Monitoring
* Support the review and implementation of site-specific and activity-specific risk assessments (e.g. boxing gym, wellbeing café, education spaces).
* Help monitor safety logs and incident trends, escalating any concerns to the Operations Manager or CEO.
* Assist in updating the central Risk Register and participate in monthly audits or walkarounds.
2. Policy and Procedure Support
* Ensure relevant signage and safety materials (e.g. fire exits, PPE stations, COSHH information) are visible and up-to-date.
* Assist with communication of health and safety procedures to volunteers and visitors.
* Contribute to the implementation of Foundation For Good's health and safety objectives and KPIs.
3. Volunteer Induction and Training
* Assist with the delivery of basic health and safety induction briefings for new volunteers (manual handling, fire safety, PPE).
* Ensure training records are logged and maintained on the central Training Tracker.
4. Site Checks and Hazard Identification
* Carry out visual safety checks of equipment and communal spaces (e.g. boxing gloves, café kitchen, storage areas).
* Help ensure daily/weekly checklists (e.g. fridge temperatures, fire alarm testing, first aid kits) are completed.
5. Incident Support
* Help staff complete and file incident or near-miss reports.
* Support follow-up investigations, where appropriate, under supervision.
6. Community Event Safety
* Support the setup and monitoring of safety measures at public events, outreach sessions, or community walks (e.g. risk assessments, first aid provision, PPE).
Skills and Attributes Required
A strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
Good communication and observation skills.
Ability to remain calm in emergencies.
Basic IT literacy (for logging checks and reports).
Willingness to learn and adhere to regulatory standards.
Desirable (but not essential)
Previous experience or qualifications in health and safety.
Level 2 Health & Safety or First Aid training (can be provided).
Familiarity with safeguarding or working with vulnerable people.
Training and Support Provided
Full induction into Foundation For Good policies and procedures.
Access to relevant in-house and external training (e.g. COSHH, Fire Safety, Manual Handling).
Ongoing supervision and development from the Operations Manager and CEO.
