Job Summary

We are looking for a pharmacy technician to join our team at Wyvern Health PCN (Priory Road Medical Centre, The Lawn Medical Centre and Old Town Surgery) with a passion for primary care and working with patients and staff. You will join a PCN pharmacy team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and prescription coordinators who will provide support.

Roles will bring variety to your day, including medicine reconciliation and supporting patients post‑discharge from hospital, data collation for medicine optimisation, audits, policy development, day‑to‑day medication issue resolution, researching medication shortages, supporting patients in the use of medicines & promoting electronic dispensing, managing safety alerts & staff training.

Technicians support prescription coordinators, clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists and other team members to enhance patient safety and improve patient health. The post holder will be a motivated individual with enthusiasm for people, quality improvement and care, with opportunities to enhance your clinical knowledge.


Main Responsibilities

* Daily Prescription Queries – Provide support to Prescription Coordinators and Clinical Pharmacists in managing daily patient prescription requirements, resolving queries (out of stock medications, pharmacy queries, ETP queries) and communicating with patients.
* Discharge Summaries – Manage and process discharge summaries and clinical letters, undertake patient‑facing and patient‑supporting roles to ensure effective medicine use through shared decision‑making conversations.
* Reviewing Patient Medication – Run blood pressure and medicine monitoring clinics (patient‑facing or virtually, including in care homes); carry out medicines optimisation tasks (e.g. checking inhaler technique), support medication reviews and medication reconciliation; use consultation skills to partner with patients and provide lifestyle advice.
* Vaccination Programmes – Support vaccination programmes for patients and staff as required.
* MHRA Alerts – Manage MHRA alerts and actions: receipt, understanding, communication with PCN contacts and completion of all associated actions, including audits, patient searches, patient letters.
* Eclipse Alerts – Manage Eclipse alerts, run searches, decide on appropriate action, communicate with PCN contacts and complete all actions, including audits, patient searches and patient letters.
* Audits – Undertake clinical audits, support quality improvement measures, contribute to the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services, assist in medicines optimisation incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
* Leadership – Act as point of contact for ICB on cost switches and savings; support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives; provide training and support on legal, safe and secure handling of medicines, including EPS implementation; develop relationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and multidisciplinary team members across primary, community, secondary care and mental health; support shared care protocols and liaise with specialist pharmacists; support practice reception and admin teams in sorting general prescription requests; support trainees such as pre‑registration pharmacy technicians and foundation pharmacists.


Qualifications & Experience

* Professional registration with GPhC.
* BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
* Experience as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
* Register with CPPE and complete the 15‑month Primary Care Education Pathway (PCPEP).


Essential Skills & Competencies

* Computer literate, able to use GP clinical systems (desirable) and Microsoft Office (essential).
* Analytical skills – analyse and interpret prescribing data, anticipate obstacles, think ahead and draw logical solutions.
* Attention to detail, accuracy and error detection.
* Resource management, prioritisation and time‑management for strict deadlines.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, with ability to adjust style for different audiences.
* Influencing, negotiating and dealing with uncertainty and change.
* Understanding of data protection, confidentiality, pharmacy law, ethics and current legislation.


Knowledge & Understanding

* Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of general practice and evidence‑based medicine.
* Appreciation of the NHS agenda, government targets, primary care prescribing, rational prescribing and improvement strategies.
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge and terminology.

Pay & Working Arrangements

Salary: Depends on experience.

Contract: Permanent.
