Senior Biomedical Scientist, Blood Transfusion
Black Country Pathology Services seek to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced Biomedical Scientist with a positive attitude and strong leadership skills to join the Black Country Pathology Services team at the New Cross Blood Transfusion Laboratory as a Senior Biomedical Scientist.
The post is full-time 37.5 hours per week. The role requires the post-holder to work in the Blood Transfusion laboratory at the New Cross site.
The post holder is responsible for a team of Specialist Biomedical Scientists and Associate Practitioners and/or other support workers, working within Blood Transfusion to deliver a medical laboratory service to achieve the objectives of efficient patient care, and resource management within the Trust. The post holder is responsible for; the day-to-day organisation, maintenance of workflow and any particular responsibilities associated with Blood Transfusion; teaching and development of staff; maintaining at all times the required high standards and quality; maintaining an up-to-date specialist knowledge and current working practices within the diagnostic laboratory.
To work with the senior management and other work colleagues to ensure best practice is identified and adopted at the earliest opportunity.
Main duties of the job
Key aspects to the role include:
* managing training and competency assessments of staff in Blood Transfusion
* maintaining the Quality Management System including SOPs
* ensuring efficient stock control and ordering
* managing Blood Transfusion technical performance and producing a monthly quality report, including, but not exhaustive of, review of IQC, EQA, analyser downtime, supplier issues, audits and CAPAs, and quality improvements.
* method verification and change controls.
* managing and developing the Blood Transfusion service in collaboration with Operational manager, Discipline Lead, Clinical Lead and senior team.
* liaising with service users.
* ensuring BSQR 2005 and MHRA compliance
* maintaining UKAS accreditation
* staff management - including appraisals, support to work meetings, as well as supporting and promoting the health and wellbeing of the team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
* BSc Biomedical Science or equivalent
* Fellowship, MSC or equivalent
Experience
* Substantial HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
* Relevant practical experience Blood Transfusion
* Completed audits to ISO 15189 standards and completed CAPAs
* Experience of carrying out appraisals
* Experience of managing staff sickness
Other
* Knowledge of UKAS accreditation requirements
* Knowledge of MHRA and BSQR requirements
* Ability to supervise work performance of staff in transfusion section
* Ability to write and understand complex standard operating procedures.
