The City of Doncaster Council is looking for a confident and ambitious individual to support deaf children and young people in Doncaster.
Specialist Communication Support Worker
As a Specialist Communication Support Worker, you will work within Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to support children, young people and families, in partnership with the Service for Children with a Hearing Impairment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide communication support to deaf children and young people across schools and early years settings.
* Assist Specialist Teachers of the Deaf and Deaf Instructors in delivering learning programmes.
* Work primarily at Hearing Impaired Additional Resourced Centres (HIARC’s) at Plover Primary and/or Outwood Academy Danum, taking on a peripatetic role when required.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Passion for education and a commitment to helping deaf children and families.
* Minimum training to Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) and willingness to pursue further training to Level 3 BSL or proven fluent BSL use through lived experience.
* Experience working with children with special educational needs is advantageous.
