Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
Job Description
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and commitments to net zero carbon.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (normal or out of hours) and support incident management objectives.
* Draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
Experience and Skills Required
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 & IET wiring regulations.
* Strong knowledge of control systems and application of IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high‑ and low‑voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Ability to test and isolate high and low voltage electrical systems and prove dead.
* Understanding of risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Capability to draft and publish electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date. Applicants may be kept on a reserve list for six months.
