The role

Crown Estate Scotland has an exciting opportunity for a Senior GIS Analyst to join our team on a 18-month Fixed Term basis.

About the role

The successful candidate/s for this new role within the organisation will be responsible for:
* Help maintain the organisation's GIS infrastructure and provide support for it.
* Assist with administration of GIS infrastructure including user setup and assigning/removing permissions
* Maintain access to business-agreed data content in the organisation's Spatial Open Data Portal
* Support the development, testing and roll-out of changes to GIS infrastructure or creation of new GIS tools to help meet organisational objectives/projects requirements
* Responsible for selecting the most appropriate GIS analysis technique and visualisation method to provide results in the most meaningful way to a range audiences, maintain and update this content as required.
* Responsible for ensuring that data is accurate and complete, ensuring quality assurance is rigorously implemented, reflecting the values of Crown Estate Scotland by maintaining consistency, accuracy and reputability.
* Contribute to related procedures documentation and version control
* Sharing knowledge and skills with the Information Services Team and provide assistance as needed for complex tasks or resource constraints.
* Collaborate with Information Services colleagues and wider business to provide expert advice on those business objectives which require geographic insight
* Provide excellent service delivery, plan personal workloads to meet needs from across the business
* Collaborative communications, working holistically with Information Services Team to deliver a one-team approach to overarching service delivery in providing business teams with GIS content for internal and external communications in a variety of formats, e.g. PDF maps, web apps and maintain and update this content as required
* Contribute to the development of policies and procedures in the Information Services team, enabling the capabilities of GIS are utilised to meet business requirements and enhance working practices
* Provide training to internal and external staff on GIS tools and services
* Maximise the potential of spatial analysis techniques by keeping abreast of current advancements in GIS technology and identifying opportunities to improve business processes
* Ensure 3rd party data is up to date, of reliable source, pertinent to business needs, and uses the most efficient method of required accessibility
The contractual working location of this role is our Edinburgh office. However, we believe work is something you do, not a place you go to, and we are committed to supporting employees to work flexibly and in a way that suits their role and preferences.

The starting salary will be £46,934 with potential for future progression as well as eligibility of annual cost of living rises. The maximum salary for this role is currently £54,489. The role also benefits from 25 days' annual leave, increasing to 30 days after four years' service, plus 11.5 of public/ privilege days. Crown Estate Scotland encourage flexible working and operate a discretionary flexi-time scheme. This role offers participation in the Civil Service pension scheme.

About You

You should have:
* Excellent knowledge of the ESRI GIS products, processes, and infrastructure
* Experience of developing GIS applications to meet business requirements
* Experience of geoprocessing such as ArcGIS Model Builder, Python, or SQL
* A degree in GIS or related studies, or relevant proven technical expertise
* The ability to apply GIS analysis and presentation techniques from a range of sources to portray analysis conclusions to a wide range of users (both technical and non-technical)
* Ability to present data in an interactive and intuitive way, configuring web GIS apps to create narratives about CES activities, present and future
* Proven ability to interpret legal documents, deed plans, maps and other technical documents. Determining authoritative sources used to identify property and establish property ownership
* Experience of relevant data standards, datums, projections and their importance within GIS and legal transactions
* A sound understanding of terrestrial and marine spatial data and conversion methods
You will have the following qualities, which are key to success in this role:
* Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
* A flexible working approach, adopting the most appropriate practices to meet business requirements.
* An aptitude for attention to detail and conforming to required standards
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team
* Excellent approach to customer service- always willing to deliver to tight timescales; demonstrates behaviours which show taking personal responsibility and service orientation to customers
* Confident in communicating with staff at all levels as well as external stakeholders
* Flexible and approachable working style, willing to try new ideas
* Experience working in multi-disciplined teams for project delivery
