ROLE OF THE JOB
This is an exciting role leading maintenance and construction delivery across Northumberland's extensive highways and transport network.
Responsible for managing and leading a large in-house highway delivery organisation, along with private sector contractors and suppliers. The role oversees annual revenue and capital budgets of approximately £35m and is crucial for improving the quality of our road network and connectivity for communities.
The post-holder will have responsibilities including road and bridge maintenance, winter services, out-of-hours activities, street lighting, construction of new infrastructure, health and safety, operational efficiency, and third-party works.
This challenging role covers urban and rural settings within a county rich in history and natural beauty, with key urban development areas and regional links to the Northeast and wider conurbation.
We seek a highly experienced, motivated candidate with the knowledge, ability, and enthusiasm to manage these services effectively. Proven leadership, management, and improvement experience in similar environments are essential.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
* Full UK Driving License
* Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification and recent relevant management training
* Experience in contract procurement
* Deep knowledge of professional practices within a Highways Delivery environment
