Pay: £88 – £100 per day

New Directions Education is working in partnership with schools across Wirral to recruit a compassionate, resilient, and inspiring professional to join their pastoral teams.
In this role, you will be the calm in the storm for pupils who struggle to regulate emotions, trust adults, or access learning. You will look beyond behaviour to understand the child underneath, building meaningful connections that help students feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
You will work closely with children who need extra emotional and behavioural support, helping them develop confidence, emotional intelligence, and coping strategies. Through your care, consistency, and patience, you will help young people rediscover their strengths and believe in themselves again.
This is more than a position — it’s an opportunity to make a real difference as a Pastoral Practitioner across primary and specialist schools on the Wirral.
1. Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
2. Look beyond behaviour to understand the emotions driving it
3. Support children when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, or dysregulated
4. Develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-confidence
5. Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral interventions
6. Help pupils re-engage with learning
7. Support children with SEND, SEMH, trauma, anxiety, and social needs
8. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and safeguarding teams
9. Create safe, calm, and nurturing spaces
10. Be a consistent, positive adult in a child’s life
You are: – Empathetic, calm, and resilient

– Able to stay regulated when students are not
– Passionate about making a difference
– Flexible and reliable
Essential: Experience working with children or young people
Desirable: SEND, SEMH, trauma-informed or pastoral experience
