Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 depending on experience, plus bonus and benefits
The Role
As a Senior Systems Assurance Engineer, you will provide independent technical challenge across the engineering lifecycle, assuring that submarine systems are designed, built, integrated and commissioned in line with safety, certification and performance requirements. Working closely with engineering, build, trials and customer teams, you’ll focus on identifying emergent technical risks early, ensuring issues are addressed before they impact harbour or sea trials.
What you will be doing
* Working alongside development and integration teams to identify technical risks and ensure robust mitigation plans are in place throughout the lifecycle.
* Providing independent scrutiny of design maturity, reviewing evidence and assuring compliance against design intent and safety/certification expectations.
* Supporting assurance activities during build, integration and Sistema commissioning, including attendance at installation inspections, set‑to‑work activities and test readiness reviews.
* Engaging with internal stakeholders and customer representatives to present assurance findings, challenge assumptions and drive resolution of high‑impact issues.
* Contributing to the product assurance strategy for submarine combat systems, helping shape processes, standards and best practice across multiple projects.
What we are looking for
* Experience with submarine or complex naval/maritime systems, with a solid understanding of system design, integration and operation.
* Strong knowledge of the engineering lifecycle, from concept and design through build, integration, commissioning and acceptance into service.
* Background in product assurance, systems assurance, safety, verification/validation or similar governance‑focused engineering role.
* Ability to work independently, applying good engineering practice and sound judgement in a safety‑critical environment.
* Confident communicati¬on, able to engage constructively with multi‑discipline engineering teams and customer stakeholders.
* Eligibility for UK security clearance and the ability to work regularly from one of the named UK sites.
Experience with safety cases, certification activities or security assurance for complex systems would be an advantage, as would prior exposure to submarine commissioning, set‑to‑work, trials or equivalent complex platform integration.
What’s on offer
* Competitive salary from £45,000 to £50,000 depending on experience.
* Strong pension scheme, performance‑related bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
* Hybrid and flexible working arrangements, with support for relocation where appropriate.
* Opportunities to grow your career as a Senior Systems Assurance Engineer within a high‑profile defence environment, working on long‑term, cutting‑edge programmes.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be British citizens and eligible for UK security clearance.
