Team Composition and Approach
The taskforce will comprise specialists in the following areas: speech and language, family support, mental health/therapy, and youth work.
Through a test-and-learn approach, practice will develop. Specialists on the team will be required to be proactive and creative to achieve outcomes for children.
Implementation Focus
The APST will be implemented across GHES and The Altus School, focusing on key stage 2 and 3 children (7-14 years old).
Model Structure
The model is based on a tiered approach:
1. Universal offer: For all children within scope, including tutorial sessions, screening for early identification of unmet needs, and staff training.
2. Group offer: Interventions for children with similar needs, holiday activities, and parent support.
3. Individual offer: Specialists will work directly with children and families to meet complex needs identified through holistic assessment.
Delivery Settings
Specialist work will be conducted across GHES and Altus sites, as well as from local community bases and family homes when appropriate.
Children in Scope
The children will access alternative education provision under Section 19 of the Education Act 1996, through GHES or Altus, due to reasons such as exclusion, illness, or other circumstances preventing attendance at mainstream schools.
