Trade Compliance Assistant Manager
Abbott Diabetes Care is seeking a Trade Compliance Assistant Manager to join our UK Customs Center of Excellence. This is a strategic and hands-on role where you'll support and lead key customs operations across UK affiliates, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving process improvements. Responsibilities
As Trade Compliance Assistant Manager, you will:
1. Lead Daily Operations: Manage customs activities across UK affiliates, ensuring compliance with HMRC and global trade regulations.
2. Team Support & Development: Guide and mentor a team of four, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
3. Import/Export Oversight: Ensure accurate documentation and timely clearance of shipments.
4. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate trade compliance risks across operations.
5. Process Improvement: Drive initiatives to streamline customs procedures and enhance efficiency.
6. Reporting & Insights: Prepare compliance reports and performance metrics for senior leadership.
7. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, customs authorities, logistics providers, and brokers.
8. Training Delivery: Develop and deliver trade compliance training across UK affiliates.
9. Documentation & Classification: Maintain records in line with policy, support product classification and origin reviews.
10. Broker Management: Oversee broker performance through SLA and KPI reviews, providing feedback to leadership.
11. Expert Guidance: Act as a subject matter expert on customs valuation, classification, and procedures.
Education and Experience
12. Experience in customs or trade compliance, ideally within a multinational or regulated industry.
13. Strong knowledge of UK Customs regulations and international trade laws.
14. Leadership experience with the ability to support and develop a team.
15. Proficiency in customs software and ERP systems (SAP, SAGE, AS400) desired.
16. Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
17. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist) are a plus.
18. A bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, or related field is preferred—but equivalent experience is highly valued.
