Finance Manager position for Retail Business in Oxfordshire
Stanton House is partnering with a well-established retail business in Oxfordshire to hire a Finance Manager into their finance team. You will join a high-performing team, overseeing the month-end close and reporting cycle, reviewing profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, cash flows, and Capex spend across multiple entities. The role involves leading a small team, managing audit and compliance, and serving as the technical accounting contact for business initiatives. Additionally, you will support budgeting and forecasting processes.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business that has experienced record trading years recently and continues to expand both internationally and within the UK. The company offers a hybrid working model with three days a week in a modern office in Oxfordshire, easily accessible from Reading and nearby areas.
This role is ideal for an ACA-qualified accountant seeking their first industry role or someone with existing industry experience in financial accounting.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the month-end close and reporting cycle.
* Oversee profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, cash flows, and Capex for all entities.
* Maintain balance sheet controls and reconciliations.
* Conduct post-month-end cost reviews, investigate variances, and ensure controlled spending.
* Lead risk management and process improvements, including automation and streamlining finance workflows with IT.
* Manage internal control frameworks, including segregation of duties and approval processes.
* Assist in preparing the monthly board pack.
* Mentor and guide two junior management accountants, supporting their development and ownership of key tasks.
* Oversee VAT, statutory, and ONS submissions.
* Lead audit and compliance activities, acting as the primary contact for external auditors and ensuring regulatory compliance.
* Coordinate tax compliance reporting with external advisors.
Candidate Requirements
* Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA).
* Experience in retail or FMCG sectors is advantageous.
* At least 2-3 years of financial accounting experience in industry.
* Proven ability to coach and develop a small team.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
