Medical Laboratory Assistant

The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) is seeking 3 enthusiastic and hard working Medical Laboratory Assistants, to work in our busy, friendly Cellular Pathology laboratory at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Based in Hull, your role will be to carry out a wide variety of laboratory based tasks, including equipment maintenance, reagent management and data inputting. The successful candidates would have a supporting laboratory role working alongside qualified Biomedical Scientists.


Main duties of the job

To provide support to clinical, scientific and technical staff in the Cellular Pathology Department.

To perform basic laboratory procedures, including receiving samples, maintaining equipment, reagent management, stock management and use of the laboratory computer system.

To work as a team member liaising with colleagues and managers.

The Cellular Pathology laboratory is based in a purpose built facility at Hull Royal Infirmary, that forms part of an integrated Cellular Pathology service within The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Good basic education - GCSE Grade A-C/9-4 or equivalent in Maths and English


Experience and Knowledge

* Previous experience of working in a Pathology laboratory would be advantageous; however, full training will be provided
* Experience working within the NHS


Skills and Attributes

* Basic IT skills
* Able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Able to concentrate on repetitive tasks for long periods.
