Overview
Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Electrophysiology (EP). This locum post will maintain the service delivery of the EP/Devices Department. The post-holder will be a fully trained and independent consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist, able to perform outpatient clinics independently, run catheter lab electrophysiology intervention and device lists, and participate in the Consultant-of-the-week and arrhythmia on-call rota. The role includes supervising SpRs and clinical fellows, and working with Arrhythmia Clinical Nurse Specialists to decide on invasive investigations and coordinate inter-hospital transfers.
Role Details
This is a full-time post (10 PAs). The appointee will work closely with the 7 existing Electrophysiology consultants, nurse case managers and allied health professionals to deliver clinical services. The Cardiovascular Directorate at St Thomas\' Hospital is large, with a six-bedded Coronary Care Unit, over 60 cardiology inpatient beds across two wards, expertise in adult congenital heart disease, six adult and two congenital Catheter laboratories, four Cardiac theatres, a state-of-the-art hybrid theatre and two outpatient centres, plus non-invasive testing including cardiac MRI.
The role involves delivering patient care in outpatient settings and in the Cardiac Catheter Labs at St Thomas\' Hospital, in collaboration with the teams described above.

Job responsibilities
To provide outpatient provision to support delivery of care in the Electrophysiology Service.
To support the Cardiology team with managing the community service (Bexley) and provide regular outpatient care for patients in this cohort.
To provide weekly Catheter Lab cover to manage demand for Electrophysiology and Device procedures, supporting elective recovery efforts.
To provide on-call cover and support the ward and resident doctor teams to deliver high standards of patient care.
To provide Consultant-of-the-Week (COTW) support for the wider Cardiology services, including ward management and referral triage.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* MRCP or equivalent qualification
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry on the Specialist Register as holding a CCT in Cardiology or equivalent
* Full training in Electrophysiology
Clinical Experience
* Expertise and experience in the full range of Electrophysiology
* Recent sub-specialist interest within Electrophysiology
* Participation in a recognized scheme of continuing medical education
Desirable
* Teaching experience at national level
Knowledge and Skills
* Sound knowledge of invasive cardiology
* Good interpersonal and communication skills in line with the Trust\'s Core Behaviours
* Knowledge of radiation protection matters in invasive cardiology
* Evidence of participation in service improvement projects
Desirable
* Experience of managing and developing a cardiology service
