Smart Design Consultant (Junior)
Overview of the Role
As a Junior Smart Design Consultant, you will support the delivery of client-facing consultancy and design services across all aspects of Smart/Intelligent Building and IoT projects. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you’ll help shape innovative solutions that transform the built environment, contributing to the success of projects across the property lifecycle.
Your contributions will have a direct impact on how clients plan, deliver, and benefit from Smart technologies.
Description of Duties
The focus of the role will be working with other PTS consultants and SMEs in supporting the design, implementation, and management of Smart/IoT/Intelligent Building systems and services.
Our services are delivered in line with recognised industry best practice and contracted service levels. As a consultant, your general duties shall support the various phases of assignments that include but are not limited to:
* Assist in client engagement sessions to capture requirements and understand business drivers
* Support the definition of technology strategies and use cases aligned with client needs and budgets
* Translate business needs and technology requirements clear documentation and deliverables
* Present ideas and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
Procurement exercises
* Undertaking market analysis amongst relevant technology manufacturers and service providers
* Support the development of specifications, tender packs and Request for Proposal documentation
* Participate in evaluating tender responses and contributing to the vendor selection process
* Assist in vendor management and coordination activities
Implementation and Delivery Support
* Develop or contribute to system designs and interface specifications
* Develop test plans, scripts, and commissioning documentation
* Support witness testing and documentation verification
In addition to delivery responsibilities, consultants are expected to:
* Stay abreast of emerging Smart technologies and industry trends
* Actively contribute to internal knowledge sharing and thought leadership
* Have strong interpersonal skills
* Be able to work with and empathise with client teams
* Manage multiple simultaneous assignments and clients
* Develop consulting skills in a supportive, fast paced environment
Preferred, but not essential knowledge
Applicants should demonstrate knowledge in some/all of the following technology areas:
* Building and facilities engineering services and systems (HVAC, lighting, security etc.)
* A knowledge of standards and SMART/IoT related technologies
* Middleware and integration approaches
* Building Management Systems (BMS)
* Commissioning and testing methodologies
* Artificial Intelligence and predictive technologies in buildings
Knowledge of the interaction between Smart/IoT systems and enterprise technologies such as LAN/WAN networks, AV/multimedia, or IWMS platforms is advantageous.
Additionally, applicants should be:
* Self-motivated – we are looking for an individual who can work both in isolation and in a team as necessary, who manages their time effectively, who is not afraid to challenge themselves and is keen to undertake new work outside of their normal “comfort-zone”
* Assertive – you will have ownership of projects/tasks and be responsible in ensuring completion within the applied constraints
* Logical - Able to communicate complex issues simply and within the business context, either orally or in writing to a high standard
* Confident – Comfortable engaging with clients at all levels
* Engaging – you will present ideas, findings, innovative solutions and reports to senior level client staff
