Overview
We are currently looking to appoint an Hourly Paid Tutor in Engineering with a strong background in mechanical, electrical, mechatronic or robotics engineering, and hands on experience with applied systems and industry standard tools. The ideal candidate will support learning in specialist areas such as control of mechatronic systems, embedded systems design, smart manufacturing and CNC programming, renewable/sustainable engineering technologies, and FEA/CAE driven CAD design. The successful candidate will join our highly regarded and established team of academics, delivering on our portfolio of undergraduate programmes in our modern facilities at CU Scarborough campus.
As an hourly paid tutor you will provide high quality teaching, curriculum development and tutorials, using an innovative approach focused on student learning. You will support the development of the subject area to ensure a class-leading student experience that is sustainable and aligned to employer and student demands.
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of learning, teaching and assessment of the course, including updating module material and ensuring all course support material is available on the virtual learning environment.
You will demonstrate good practice in learning, teaching and assessment to engage students, stimulate interest in the subject and encourage class attendance. You will provide students with effective academic guidance and advice.
You will contribute to quality monitoring and the enhancement and continuous improvement of the curriculum and teaching provision to ensure a quality student experience.
You will engage in professional development and hold an active membership of related professional bodies to keep up to date with developments in the field and ensure teaching reflects modern professional practice.
Qualifications
Applicants will have a Master’s degree in an appropriate subject OR (if from a professional practice background) a good Honours Degree and appropriate professional qualification and/or membership.
A teaching qualification or willingness to undertake a teaching qualification if not already qualified is essential for this role. Coventry University offers academic support and professional development and provides the opportunity for staff without a recognised teaching qualification to undertake the PGCE. Ideally, you will have experience of teaching at a Higher Education level and with proven ability to deliver at this level. You will be able to deliver across a broad programme area, and hold advanced subject knowledge to facilitate advanced study in specific aspects of the subject. You will have a clear passion for the subject area you teach and a strong motivation to facilitate learning. You will understand the needs of diverse learner groups and use student-centric approaches. Experience in producing online learning materials would be advantageous. Experience working with diverse cultures and the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds is essential. You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced in supporting an active learning pedagogy with evidence of promoting student success.

You will support the design and delivery of engaging, innovative and responsive teaching to achieve excellent student outcomes.
