At AO Recycling, we’re committed to extracting as much value as possible from the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that is thrown away by UK households every year. We’re growing rapidly and with that growth comes exciting new opportunities to innovate, push boundaries, and lead the way in how the UK recycles its electrical appliances.
Our fully automated fridge recycling plant is the most efficient and advanced in the UK and sets a new standard in recovering metals, plastics, and gases. Did you know we process 100 fridges per hour? That’s 700,000 per year! We’re also proud to have a second site, a fully automated plastic recycling facility where we combine sink-float technology and electrostatic separation, to turn mixed fridge plastics into high-quality recycled products.
We’re looking for a Maintenance Technician (Electrical) to join our Engineering team and help keep our cutting-edge plant running smoothly. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be responsible for delivering planned maintenance, tackling reactive repairs, and driving improvement projects that boost reliability and reduce downtime
You’ll be collaborating with production teams and fellow engineers to ensure our equipment performs at its best. If you’re proactive, safety-focused, and passionate about engineering excellence, this is your chance to make a real impact.
Here's What You Can Expect To Be Doing
No two days are the same here at AO Recycling, but here’s what a day could look like for you…
• Carry out planned maintenance inspections and condition reports in line with the site maintenance plan
• Diagnose and resolve electrical faults, keeping downtime to a minimum
• Lead and support corrective and reactive maintenance activities
• Participate in engineering project work, including refurbishments and new installations
• Conduct dynamic risk assessments and maintain a clean, safe working environment
• Monitor equipment performance and escalate issues to site management
• Log progress and updates in our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Contribute to daily operational review meetings and problem-solving workshops
• Work 4 on 4 off rotational days and nights
A Few Things About You
We’re not expecting you to know everything from day one, but you’ll thrive here if you have:
• A Level 3 qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (City & Guilds or equivalent)
• Experience in a manufacturing, production, or processing environment
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Familiarity with CMMS systems and proactive maintenance strategies
• Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety regulations and safe systems of work
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• A hands-on, team-oriented approach with a drive to improve and innovate

Reasonable adjustments
We want to make sure you're given the best possible chance to shine in your interview, so you may need us to do things in a slightly different way. This could be requesting a ground floor room or bringing along a sign interpreter to name just a few.
Fill in the below box if there's anything we need to know so we can adjust the process to support you.
AO is for everyone
We should all feel that we belong. That's why we are creating a welcoming and inclusive place to work.
We're proud to be different. From how we look to the way we talk to our customers, we skip to the beat of our very own drum. We know that being different together is our superpower and we celebrate it because it makes us stronger, more creative, and better at what we do.
We believe the people we employ should reflect the diversity of our customer base; that way, we can communicate in a way that recognises all backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, abilities, and sexual orientations.
And that's why we're asking these questions. Making sure our recruitment process is inclusive is a key part of what we're doing at AO to encourage diversity as an employer.
How will we use the data?
After we've collated the data, we'll look at the patterns to assess if we are inclusive at each stage. If it turns out that we aren't, then the data may help us identify where we can improve.
The data will never have any bearing on whether an application is successful or not and will not be available to hiring managers at any stage.
How do you describe your gender identity?
How do you describe your ethnic background?
How do you like to describe your sexual identity or sexual orientation?
Do you identify as a person with a disability or are you a person with accessibility needs?
How would you describe your Neurodiversity?
