Work Location: Lyndhurst Fire Station
Hours per week: Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to emergencies and engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called ‘part-time’, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced, saving lives and protecting people and assets. They receive thorough training and develop personal skills relevant to emergency situations.
On-call firefighters come from all backgrounds, including those at home, in employment, studying, or not currently employed. They volunteer their time to support the fire and rescue service and protect their communities.
This role is demanding but rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a significant contribution. Teamwork and community engagement are essential aspects of the role, including attending community events.
On-call firefighters respond to a variety of situations beyond fires, such as community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescues.
