We are thrilled to announce a major contract win with Southern Water and are recruiting a number of Drainage Engineers to work in 2‑person teams across Sussex.
Position: Van Pack Drainage Engineer
Location: Crawley Depot (Crawley, West Sussex) – once competent you will work from door to door.
Job Type: Permanent, full‑time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week (flexible hours, weekends, on‑call rota)
Salary: £30,500 per annum
Benefits: 21 days holiday (plus bank holidays), health cash plan, onsite parking, auto‑enrolment pension scheme, friendly working environment.
About the Role
Travelling to residential sites in a van you are responsible for, around the region powering a high‑pressure water jet for restoration.

* Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems.
* Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
* Run diagnostics and repairs on drains.
* Deliver good customer service.
* Maintain good H&S practice while carrying out works.
* Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
* Comply with health and safety responsibilities (PPE, safe site set‑ups protecting Lanes Group employees, the public and other road users).
* Use VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
* Work unsupervised in all weather conditions using correct PPE and lone‑worker systems.
* Dynamically risk assess site access and working conditions depending on specific circumstances on arrival.
* Liaise with the client regarding progress and any updates.
* Provide support to your colleagues.
* Inspect tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
* Report any defects or malfunctions in relation to training.
* Carry out risk assessments and adopt a mature approach to risk perception.
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
* Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc duties requested by management.

About You
The ideal candidate will be hardworking and respectful, complying with health and safety standards. Experience in the use of high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential. Other drainage qualifications (e.g. NRSWA, Confined Spaces) are an advantage.
You must have a full UK driver’s licence.
