Overview
The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinate all aspects of investigations, and support case progression through to prosecution.
This is a hybrid role, involving both home and Environment Agency office work, with travel to meetings and operational duties as required. You may be required to respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents. An incident role may attract additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be provided.
Responsibilities
* Lead on complex or protracted criminal investigations, coordinating and directing all stages of investigation from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
* Coordinate evidence gathering, interviews, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, and ensuring progress of investigations.
* Work with partners and, where appropriate, develop and drive investigative teams and complex investigations.
* Support the Major Incident Room and help develop the wider team within the National Environmental Crime Unit.
* Respond to incidents or provide business continuity support as required.
Experience and Skills
* High level of attention to detail, hard work and self-motivation with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, leading serious criminal investigations, and workings of a Major Incident Room is desirable.
* Experience driving and building investigation teams, using initiative to find solutions, and guiding teams to deliver results.
* Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within 6 months and a full driving licence is required.
