MSKCAT Therapy Assistant

* Supporting assessment, treatment planning, and therapy sessions for patients with varied needs
* Administrative tasks such as patient bookings, stock management, equipment cleaning, and class preparation
* Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT), writing patient notes, emails and recording conversations
* Communicating with colleagues, wider MDT staff, patients and carers
* Arranging / completing onward referrals to community and rehabilitation settings under guidance of the therapists.
* Occasional weekend work (typically one shift per month)
* Adherence with mandatory training, appraisal and supervision
Main duties of the job
* To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential.
* Understand and use skills of communication such as persuasion, motivation and explanation.
* Gain informed consent when interacting / assessing / treating and working with a wide variety of patients.
* Overcome barriers to effective communication such as loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, fear, etc. by altering style and format of communication used.
* Understand and gain valid consent prior to actions or providing interventions / care and record this appropriately.
* Work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment as advised by the qualified therapist.
* To maintain accurate assessment and treatment records in line with legal and trust requirements.
* To work collaboratively across agencies and organisational boundaries and ensure delivery of an integrated service through effective communication.
* Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management, apply to own work situation.
* Provide effective advice, information and support for patients and carers.
* Ensure staff, patients and carers are aware of the role of therapists within own speciality area.

Person Specification
* GCSE English and Maths or equivalent
* Knowledge of therapy and assessments and interventions
* Good organisational and time management skills
* Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of supporting equality and valuing diversity
* Ability to move and handle patients limbs during therapy sessions
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health or social related topic
* Proven patient related experience in a health or social setting
* Therapy experience
* Awareness of non verbal communication methods
* Working knowledge of Patient centre and EPR
* Knowledge of therapy assessments and interventions
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health or social related topic
