Overview
Our client, a global leader in sustainable water and environmental solutions, is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Markets and Research to join its Executive Committee. This newly created role presents an exceptional opportunity for a strategic and commercially astute leader to shape the organisation’s market and research engagement strategy. The successful candidate will drive value creation through market intelligence, business development, and research partnerships that deliver measurable impact and sustainable growth. Working in a hybrid capacity from the organisation’s headquarters in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, the Director will oversee a multi-disciplinary team and play a pivotal role in aligning commercial objectives with research excellence and innovation.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership and oversight of market analysis, research, and commercial engagement.
* Shape and deliver a cohesive market and research strategy to maximise impact and return on investment.
* Oversee the development of marketing, business development, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
* Evaluate and assess the commercial viability of internal and externally funded research projects.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team to ensure delivery of key organisational priorities.
* Manage budgets, resources, and commercial performance across assigned functions.
* Ensure compliance with legal, contractual, and regulatory obligations in research and commercial activities.
* Foster strong relationships with external partners, clients, and industry stakeholders to enhance collaboration and market presence.
Requirements
* Degree in science, engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent senior-level experience).
* Proven leadership experience within a research, technical, or commercial environment.
* Strong financial and commercial acumen, with the ability to assess ROI and project viability.
* Substantial experience in business development and market engagement within a complex, research-driven organisation.
* Deep understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks related to commercial and research contracts.
* Demonstrated success in leading and developing diverse teams.
* Excellent analytical, organisational, and decision-making skills.
* Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing capabilities.
