Catch22 include Norfolk is an Ofsted-registered independent school providing full-time, alternative secondary education for young people who have been excluded from their previous school or pupil referral unit, or who need additional support beyond what is offered by mainstream settings.
Job Description
We are seeking a Teacher to teach KS3 and KS4 in PHSE at our alternative education provision in Kings Lynn. You will work with a maximum of 8 students per class on a 1:4 ratio, supported by a teaching assistant in every lesson, enabling closer and more positive relationships through marking, assessment, and feedback. Many students work at a lower level due to missed education. You will be teaching students with emotional and behavioural difficulties in small groups. The role requires flexibility, sensitivity, patience, and resilience. An ability to engage all students with creativity and passion is essential.
You will be part of a small but effective team where communication and professionalism are paramount. The work is challenging but rewarding. Your primary responsibilities include teaching, producing schemes of work and lesson plans, building rapport with students and families, and liaising with outside agencies to address student issues and barriers to learning.
Main responsibilities include:
Teaching and learning:
* Creating an inspiring learning environment with high expectations of achievement and progression.
* Planning and updating schemes of work to meet curriculum, inspection, and accreditation standards, ensuring compliance with current regulations.
* Developing learning resources and routes tailored to learner needs and regulatory requirements.
* Preparing lessons for off-site students for support staff to deliver.
* Supporting learners to reflect on their progress and set positive targets.
* Maintaining good order and safeguarding students’ wellbeing.
* Building effective relationships with students and families, liaising with outside agencies as appropriate.
* Completing administrative tasks related to teaching, including exam entries, register-taking, and invigilation.
Other duties:
* Acting as a role model and championing Catch22 and the Education directorate’s values.
* Complying with policies on safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, data protection, and confidentiality.
* Participating in personal and professional development activities and sharing best practices with colleagues.
Qualifications, skills, and experience required:
* A recognised higher qualification with significant teaching and planning experience, with willingness to work towards QTS.
* Experience working with young people with complex, high-behaviour, and additional learning needs.
* Extensive behaviour management experience with students exhibiting complex and extreme behaviours.
* Previous experience teaching KS3 and KS4.
* Understanding of the National Curriculum and its application.
* Knowledge of behavioural techniques and theories.
* Understanding of statutory requirements related to equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Knowledge of planning and assessment techniques.
* Ability to adapt a range of teaching, learning, and behaviour management strategies to personalise learning for all students.
Additional Information
Salary: £35,000 FTE, depending on experience.
