Overview
As a Technical Supervisor, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of mechanical and electrical maintenance across the Dartford River Crossing and M25 tunnels. You’ll manage a team of M&E Maintenance Technicians, oversee subcontractors, and provide leadership to ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and client requirements. This role offers the opportunity to lead critical infrastructure operations on one of the UK’s busiest motorways, contributing directly to the safety, resilience, and performance of the network. You will drive continuous improvement, identify operational efficiencies, and support the long-term success of the M25 network.
Responsibilities
* Maintain expert knowledge of the mechanical and electrical systems across the Dartford River Crossing and tunnels; plan, resource, and execute maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
* Prepare and deliver work briefings, conduct pre-site inspections, and debrief teams to embed lessons learned into future activities.
* Oversee resource allocation, ensuring the right people, equipment, and materials are in place to complete work safely and on schedule.
* Manage fleet operations including compliance with drivers’ hours and defect reporting.
* Lead by example to embed Zero Harm principles; contribute to development and continuous improvement of risk assessments and method statements.
* Support the workforce in identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
* Manage day-to-day team performance, monitor attendance, approve leave, and support ongoing development.
* Deliver toolbox talks, provide feedback and training, and maintain clear and consistent communication with the team.
* Foster a culture of continuous improvement and sustainability, identify cost-saving opportunities, and align maintenance activities with environmental best practices.
Qualifications
* Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification, CSCS Supervisor card, and SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
* Experience maintaining HV and LV systems, high-volume pumps, and associated safety systems in a highways or tunnels environment.
* Strong understanding of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality standards within a highways context; able to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Excellent communication skills; able to deliver clear briefings and handovers and maintain accurate records.
* Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; valid UK driving licence.
* Ability to complete checks including BPSS, HAVS questionnaire, and Critical Safety Medical.
* Works well in a proactive, safety-focused, hands-on, high-pressure environment with a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern (alternating days and nights).
