Your Role
We are seeking an Assistant Facilities Manager to join our Facilities team. The role is primarily based at Great Park Academy, with responsibility for supporting additional sites across the Gosforth Group, including travel between locations within the Multi Academy Trust as required.
Our Assistant Facilities Managers work on a rotating shift pattern. This currently requires a member of the Facilities team to be present on site during both school and community hours (6:30am to 9:30pm, Monday to Friday). Additional allowances will be paid where applicable. You will also receive a shift allowance of 10% of your basic salary when working a rotating shift, and time and a third for hours worked after 8:00pm.
On a day‑to‑day basis, the Assistant Facilities Manager will be responsible for opening and securing the school, undertaking some cleaning duties, and supervising activities before the school day begins and at the end of the day on a rotational basis. The role will also include providing porterage services to support timetable requirements.
The role will require carrying out regular facilities inspections and implementing any remedial actions arising from these inspections. This will include operating plant and machinery to maintain appropriate conditions within the school, as well as identifying and recommending improvements where necessary.
Shift Pattern
* Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pm
* Week 2: 1:30pm – 9:30pm
The shift pattern can be discussed further at interview.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a candidate who has experience operating building heating, ventilation and plumbing systems, along with a working knowledge of health, safety and security practices. Supervising staff and contractors while on site is a necessary part of the role, so it is essential that you can establish good working relationships, communicate clear instructions, and resolve issues calmly and methodically. The post holder must demonstrate flexibility, strong time‑management skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new demands. Working experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) is essential, and experience with digital and manual reporting systems is desirable. Knowledge of cleaning practices, building security and the ability to undertake small remedial tasks would be an advantage. Commitment to child protection and safeguarding is essential.
