Job Title: Forensic Controller - HC622592 X2



 

Location: Southampton Central Police Station



Salary: Scale 5, £29,109 - £31,296 per annum - Shift pattern of 7-4 working every shift but that does also include being on duty 1 weekend in every 3 (once fully trained), so appropriate weekend enhancement allowance paid.



 Hours: 37 hours per week



Contract: Permanent



 Closing Date: Tuesday 11th November 2025 at 23:59 hours


About The Role


To provide a key liaison, co-ordination and communication role for the police and Forensic Services Department, members of the public and external agencies to achieve a prompt and efficient response to crime scene examinations and the deployment of Crime scene investigators.


Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:


1. Operate a range of communication systems including Microsoft Teams, force computer system and telephone.

2. Risk assess incidents and make critical decisions based on a variety of information sources putting proportionate measures in place as required.

3. Manage competing priorities to ensure the objective of “attend the right crime scene at the right time with an appropriately trained Crime Scene Examiner for Forensic Services resource requests.

4.Co-ordinate the deployment of a range of specialist Forensic Services resources and respond to requests for support from those units ensuring the safety and integrity of police resources are maintained at all times.

5. Liaise with other emergency services and external agencies to coordinate forensic examinations that correspond with both the constabulary’s and other agencies’ availability.

6. Operate a telephone central help line to advise police officers and CID and victims of crime in relation to co- ordinate Forensic Services requests and for guidance in relation to contamination, preservation of forensic evidence and other forensic issues as appropriate.

Essential Qualifications


Educated to QCF Level 2 (3 passes including English Language), OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.


Essential Experience


Considerable experience in a busy work environment, involving:

Frequent people contact, including handling difficult callers and/or sensitive matters.

Experience of working in a pressurised and/or reactive environment.
