Our client is seeking an experienced Deputy Chief Accountant.
This role, working alongside the existing Deputy Chief Accountant, is responsible for delivering the Council’s annual Statement of Accounts, ensuring effective accounting controls, and liaising with external auditors. The successful candidate will support the Chief Accountant in corporate finance, providing resilience across the team, with a focus on Technical Accounting, Fixed Assets, and Taxation.
The Deputy Chief Accountant will report to the Chief Accountant and will support various areas within the Corporate Accountancy team, including:
1. Supporting financial accounting areas such as Financial Statements, Balance Sheet Reconciliations & Monitoring, reviewing financial controls, and providing guidance to services across the Council.
2. Liaising with external auditors and maintaining strong relationships with the finance team.
3. Owning specific finance processes, ensuring team members are trained and processes are carried out efficiently.
4. Ensuring accounting for areas of responsibility complies with Internal Financing Reporting Standards and CIPFA’s Code of Practice for Local Government Accounting.
5. Proactively seeking opportunities to improve financial support to the Council.
This role offers valuable experience and a sound understanding of the Council’s technical accounting processes, leading to effective controls and accurate production of the Statement of Accounts. It is ideal for an ambitious, self-motivated individual with strong financial skills and a desire to add value.
The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant with strong Excel and analytical skills, experience in account closure, audits, and technical accounting. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with staff at all levels within the Council and with external organizations.
Enfield offers a hybrid working arrangement, with regular office presence required for meetings and business needs.
