Introducing the Nepean Adolescent Mental Health Unit (NAHMU), a fresh, purpose built 10-bed facility dedicated to supporting adolescents aged 12 to 17 who are navigating complex and severe mental health challenges. This state-of-the-art inpatient unit is the newest chapter in the Child, Youth and Family Mental Health (CYFMH) story, expanding its reach to provide compassionate, specialised care from the earliest stages of life through to young adulthood. NAHMU isn’t just a place of healing, it’s a vital step forward in empowering young people and their families with the support they need, when they need it most. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Dietitian Level 3 to join our Adolescent Mental Health Unit. This role provides advanced Clinical Dietetic services to adolescents with complex Mental Health needs, including eating disorders and comorbid physical health concerns, within a multidisciplinary team environment. As a Senior Dietitian Level 3, you will deliver expert nutritional assessment, intervention, and education to young people and their families, while also providing leadership, service development, and clinical supervision within the dietetics service. This role plays a key part in supporting recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and evidence-based care. The NAMHU Senior Dietitian provides advanced, evidence-based Dietetic services to adolescents and their families/carer as part of their admission to NAMHU. The role delivers comprehensive nutrition assessment, medical nutrition therapy, education, and counselling to support recovery, growth, and mental wellbeing within a multidisciplinary, recovery-oriented model of care. As a Senior Clinician, the NAMHU Senior Dietitian works independently and autonomously, exercising advanced clinical reasoning and professional judgement in novel or complex situations such as eating disorders, psychotropic-related metabolic change, and nutritional risk in severe mental illness. The role provides clinical leadership, supervision, and mentoring to junior staff and students, and contributes to quality improvement, research, and service development activities. What you will bring to the role: Tertiary qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics and eligible for full membership with Dietitians Australia. Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and experience in dietetics within a mental health, eating disorders and/or adolescent health settings. Proven ability to work independently and autonomously with advanced clinical reasoning in novel or critical situations. Proven ability to undertake comprehensive nutrition assessments, develop and implement individualised and group interventions that support recovery, growth, and wellbeing for young people aged 12–17 years. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and leadership to junior staff and students, and to contribute to quality improvement, service evaluation, or research activities. High-level communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and advocate for dietetic care within treatment planning and care coordination. Demonstrated ability to apply culturally safe and trauma-informed practice, particularly when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, culturally and linguistically diverse families and other priority populations. Demonstrated professional accountability, time management, and documentation skills consistent with NSW Health governance and Dietitians Australia professional standards. Willingness to be flexible within the role, including Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
