Job Description

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Associate Director of Virtual Design in Construction (VDC), EMEA, to join our dedicated team at our office located in Birmingham or Manchester, UK. This role can be located at any of IPS's offices within the EMEA region.

The Associate Director of VDC - EMEA supports the Director of Digital & BIM - EMEA with the utilization, growth, and development of professionals in the BIM Design Discipline, which is comprised of VDC Managers across the EMEA Region. The Associate Director of VDC - EMEA shall:

* Ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables via QA / QC reviews and technical audits.
* Support business development with technical support, proposal generation, and work hour estimates.
* Possess sufficient technical proficiency in the various facets of VDC design to understand project requirements and apply the appropriate resources and execution approach for a successful project.
* Support strategic company initiatives and innovation, and support alignment at a discipline level.
* Act as a SME for specified VDC areas to support IPS’ general development.
* Support Discipline GATEway initiative, controlling budget hours, building relationships with IPSM counterparts, and ensuring quality is delivered on every project.
* Ensure alignment with Global VDC procedures, standards, and software.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Implement the strategic direction as set out by the Director of Digital & BIM – EMEA.
* Execute the work performed by the VDC team in EMEA.
* Coordinate with Regional Senior Directors, Project Managers, and Proposal Managers to determine scope, cost, complexity, planning, and scheduling requirements of projects.
* Assign appropriate personnel, in close cooperation with the Director of Digital & BIM - EMEA, to provide cost-effective design and technical support for VDC.
* Implement an appropriate cost-effective workflow process and level of design detail to achieve project goals.
* Estimate work hours needed to generate project deliverables and support the design team.
* Ensure the quality, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and completeness of overall work to the required discipline engineering principles; compliance with IPS Quality Management standards, procedures, codes, and ordinances; adherence to project schedules; and provide training, technical, and administrative guidance to personnel within the discipline.
* Support a VDC strategic business plan in concert with overall company planning efforts involving technical/regulatory activities to achieve long-range goals.
* Support the VDC Design Communities of Practice (CoP’s) to promote continuous development of the BIM Engineering Framework. Develop discipline policies, technical standards, and procedures. Assist in the development and coordination of divisional and inter-departmental policies, procedures, and standards.
* Liaise with other EMEA Directors & Associate Directors to ensure all projects are completed consistently.
* Drive innovation by exploring new ways of delivering value to clients, aligning with AI and the IPS Business Digital Transformation (B-Dx) initiative to increase productivity using technology.
* Maintain connections with industry bodies and trade groups to stay current. Encourage participation in professional bodies for CPD of VDC team members.
* Assist the Director of Digital & BIM - EMEA in hiring, performance appraisal, salary recommendations, and employee development.
* Plan and schedule work for the discipline to ensure effective distribution of assignments and resources.
* Liaise for inter-office labor, work sharing, and outsourcing to consultants.
* Evaluate and initiate training to ensure technical competence and leadership development.
* Determine labor, resource, and financial needs of the discipline.
* Review productivity and quality reports regularly to ensure top performance.
* Participate in business development by seeking new projects with existing or new clients.
* Contribute to sales presentations and proposals.
* Collaborate with the Discipline & Location Senior Directors to support technical compliance and development of IPS services, including software utilization and recommendations.
* Deliver projects and consultancy work as required.
* Develop VDC design deliverables for all project phases, ensuring quality during construction, including digital twins, scanning progress, and Fusor to support a potential 7D delivery model.
* Collaborate with project teams to support successful project execution, aligning levels of detail (LOD) at each phase.
* Work with client counterparts to develop project concepts.
* Prepare or review VDC construction budgets based on scope and experience.
* Travel to other IPS offices and client sites as needed.
* Facilitate VDC team meetings.
* Handle special projects as assigned.
* Support a smooth transition to the new organization, addressing employee and management concerns.
* Promote IPS Visions and Values within the organization.

Line of Report

* The Associate Director of VDC - EMEA reports to the Director of Digital & BIM - EMEA.
* The Director of Digital & BIM – EMEA reports to the Senior Director, Design (Facility) – EMEA, who reports to the EMEA Operations Director.

Qualifications & Requirements

* Extensive experience in designing Pharmaceutical and BioPharmaceutical facilities for cGMP production.
* Proven ability to plan, organize, supervise, and coordinate technical work, and to foster cooperation.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills, with a strong work ethic.
* A HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Design or equivalent.
* Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively within a developing team.
* Expertise in engineering design programs and CAD applications.
* Experience preparing design documents, including digital twins, scanning, Fusor, and aligning with a 7D delivery model.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with senior-level contacts.
